The District is requiring TK teachers to complete 24 semester units (or equivalent units) in early childhood or child development coursework by December 1, 2017, who were first assigned to a TK classroom after July 1, 2015.With such an exciting school year ahead of you, we want to help make sure teaching experience is as smooth as possible. This program provides TK teachers with stipends of up to $5000 in four completion periods between Jand June 21, 2017. TK teachers having to meet additional requirements to be appropriately assigned to a TK program will want to participate in Los Angeles County’s “California Transitional Kindergarten Stipend Program” and complete 24 semester units prior to December 2 1, 2017. Further, any current credentialed teacher who is assigned to teach TK and has completed at least 24 semester units (or equivalent units) in early childhood education/childhood development, or holds a Child Development Teacher Permit, has met the additional requirements. A child development teacher permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC).Īny current credentialed teacher who is or was assigned to teach TK, or a combination class of kindergarten and TK, on or before July 1, 2015, is “grandfathered in” to teach TK without having to meet additional requirements.
